Gopalgad Fort

In Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district, 51 kilometres (32 miles) from Chiplun is where you’ll find the Gopalgad Fort/Anjanvel Fort. In the Ratnagiri district, this fort is a significant fort. The Fort is situated in a strategic location for guarding the Vashishti River trade route, which continues until Govindgad near Chiplun and the Dabhol port and was a major route in mediaeval times. On a hill near the water, there is a fort there.

History
There is no recorded documentation of this fort’s construction time. During his invasion of Dhabol Creek in 1660, King Shivaji took this fort from Mohammed Adil Shah of Bijapur. Later, he constructed a dockyard/shipbuilding dock, and the fort was given the name Gopalgad. A general from Ethiopia named Khairriyatkan oversaw it for an additional 46 years after 1699. Tulaji Angre triumphed in 1745. In 1756, a soldier under Angres Ramji Mahadev Bivalkar took control of the fort. Colonel Kennedy conquered the Fort in 1818.

How to reach
Guhagar, which is 46 miles from Chiplun, is the closest town. Anjanvel, the fort’s base settlement, lies 13 kilometres from Guhagar. There are excellent hotels in Chiplun, Guhagar, and Anjanvel. Currently, modest hotels along the coastline route also offer tea and snacks. The hills west of the settlement of Anjanvel is where the trekking route begins. There is now a large, secure road leading up to the fort. Reaching the fort’s entrance gate takes roughly 30 minutes.
