Lingana Fort

 


Lingana Fortress was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1648 to secure the center of Konkan from the Sidis. Under Maratha, Lingana was used as a penal colony. Prisoners were locked in rock dungeons, one dungeon containing 50 of his prisoners. Lingana said he was captured by Colonel Prother in 1818.

Lingana is a huge peak on the main line of Sahyadris between Raigad and Torna. Located in his Mahad Taluka in Raigad district. It is located 35 km from Mahad city.
